PANDORA II, DML’s new dedicated MBES survey vessel.

The demand for Multibeam Echo Sounder (MBES) surveys is increasing in New Zealand. DML has responded to the demand by recently commissioning a dedicated MBES survey boat. Pandora II is a 7.5m catamaran and incorporates a clever mechanism whereby the sonar transducer is raised and lowered through a moon pool arrangement located between the hulls and operated by a hand winch. Being a catamaran design, the boat is very stable and manoeuvrable and can operate in very shallow water. She is fitted with a full hydrographic survey suite including single beam and multibeam sonars as well as other oceanographic sensors. Being trailerable, the boat is ideally suited for harbour and inshore surveys and is currently working in the Northland region.
